Fitness for busy mums
•Posted on January 09 2017
To all the mummies out there – Although I don’t have children myself, I am surrounded by friends that do and have witnessed how hard it can be to fit in a workout when you have little ones to look after (Isn’t that exercise in itself?!)
A lot of my clients are Super Mum’s and I am often asked as to the best way to keep fit whilst juggling their busy home life at the same time.
So I thought I would let you in on my top tips:
Set a time to exercise and stick to it. You are more likely to find time to be active if you do it at the same time and on the same days each week as it helps you get into a good routine.
Split up your activity throughout the day. You can achieve your target in sections of 10 minutes or more! I am a big fan of the 30/30 method – where you exercise for 30 seconds, then rest for 30 seconds. 10 rounds of that is only 10 minutes and is super easy to fit into your day! Choose exercises like Squat Jumps, Push Ups, High Knees, Star Jumps, Lunges, Mountain Climbers for an effective total body workout!
Walk your children to and from school – I know, you have heard it before! But this is also a great way to ensure your children also get enough physical activity and fresh air (plus you save on those petrol costs. WIN WIN!)
Get active… Take your kids swimming or chase them around the park – you would be surprised how many calories you burn!
Put on your running shoes! Running is an effective and straightforward way of exercising. It’s perfect if you are re just starting. You don’t need any equipment and its free – what more could you ask for! Start with a 30 minute power walk and build yourself up.
Find a local buggy fit class – working out alongside and supporting other mums you would get in exercise but a great place to meet new people with the similar goals!
Exercise during your lunch break. Your office may have a gym, or you may have access to a nearby swimming pool or if not, simply go for a good power walk! You will feel much better for it.
Give it a go! Have you any other ideas or specific activities you found worked well for you as a Fit Mum? I would love to hear them!
